Hawaii Adventures
Here’s a summary of our fun times!
Wednesday: Arrive. Lunch at L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Dessert: Malasadas, still warm- YUM!!! (Portuguese doughnuts). See sites of downtown Honolulu: Coral block church, state capitol, Iolani Palace, and State Supreme Court building. Pick up Father-in-law at office.
Thursday: Ka’ena Point hike. Saw a pod of whales and monk seals. In the tide pools we also saw: urchins, sea cucumbers, crabs, and numerous pretty fish including “Gil” from Finding Nemo. Ate a picnic lunch.
Friday: Hike to Diamond Head – lots of stairs! Ate Hawaiian style shave ice. Day at Sandy Beach, there were HUGE waves. Absolutely no women were really in the water that day. Jeff took a good beating that day, but had a lot of fun. Time looking around Waikiki and for dessert: strawberry shortcake cream puffs at Beard Papa’s, Yum, Yum!
Saturday: Trek to La’ie up windward coast. Macadamia outlet- ooooh, the samples! Bought our souvenir from a Tongan master carver at a little stand off the side of the road, a 2 foot by 2 foot hand-carved bowl made from Monkey Pot wood. The bowl is one solid piece of wood with four legs and intricate carving around the edge. A beautiful piece of art we are excited to have. Shrimp lunch at Giovanni’s White Shrimp Truck. Polynesian Cultural Center: activities at each “island”, dinner luau, tour to BYU Hawaii and the LDS temple, and night show.
Sunday: Attended church. Received lots of Easter goodies and a shell lei for being a visitor. Manoa Waterfall hike- soooo muddy, but beautiful and lush! We also saw the Honolulu Stake Tabernacle which had a really interesting mosaic on it.
Monday: Started at Sandy Beach where the waves were even bigger than before. I tried to boogie board in them and the lifeguard realized quickly that I was a beginner and sent us to Waimanalo Bay Beach which was great. We boogied and jumped the waves and ate a picnic lunch before going to Hanauma Bay to snorkel. We saw some really cool things. Dinner at Cheesecake Factory, YUM!
Tuesday: Spent a lot of time packaging our bowl for the travel home and headed to the airport.
What a fun trip! Thanks Kathi and Dave for letting us stay with you!
